Underbody Rust Protection Service

Lanogaurd and Waxoil

Show your vehicle some love with our 2-day underbody rust protection and prevention package!

We offer a comprehensive 2-day underbody protection service, keeping your vehicle in tip-top condition.

Day 1

When your vehicle arrives, we place seat and floor protectors to ensure it stays clean whilst it’s in our care.

We set out by first giving the vehicle a thorough wash underneath using a hot steam power wash, this removes any grease, mud and all of the other nasties such as road salt (that speeds up corrosion). Once on the ramp, we have a good look underneath at the extent of the corrosion, and set about the task of removing any loose rust bubbles, flaky paint and old engine oil (yes, this is common!). We use a variety of methods to ensure that we’re not applying protection products over any loose material such as hire powered wire wheels, and wire brushes with a touch of elbow grease!

Your vehicle is then power washed again to remove any dust created during the rust removal process.

We then allow the vehicle to dry overnight.

Day 2

On the morning of the second day, we ensure it’s fully dry by lowering the vehicle about 3 or 4 feet off the ground on the vehicle lift, and direct a high powered diesel space heater underneath.

Once we’re confident it’s all completely bone dry, we prep the vehicle ready for the application. We remove the wheels, wheel arch liners as well as any under trays.

We mask off the vehicle so that no overspray can occur, and begin the application. Application is done using special underseal spray equipment, along with a 3-phase compressor, this also allows us to inject underbody protection directly into chassis rails by using a long thin tube, with a special nozzle that fires the underseal in a 360 degree spray pattern. This is very important as it’s one of the major structural components of any vehicle, and ultimately where water sits, and rots them from the inside out. In fact, if you notice corrosion, it’s often the case that it’s too late and the damage has already been done, meaning we have to get the welder out and patch any areas that are structurely unsafe. If the vehicle does need welding, this is a separate service that we provide, and we’d need to price this up and discuss it with you.

End Results!

What products do we use?

We use a variety of products to protect your vehicle, and this all comes down to customer choice. Below we’ve listed a few products that we use most frequently:

Tetroseal: – https://www.tetrosyl.com/

Tetroseal is a technologically advanced highly structured under body sealing compound which is particular resistant to sagging when applying and provides excellent sound deadening qualities. Protects against salt attack, corrosion, rust, stones and water. Prolongs vehicle life. Of all the products we use, this is the one we recommend. For the price point and longevity, it is a good product, and looks great. It is black in colour, and the protection it offers is fantastic, and also makes your car aesthetically pleasing to the eye, especially in the wheel arches.

Lanogaurd – https://www.lanoguard.co.uk/

Lanoguard is a rust protection solution enriched with natural lanolin. It forms a protective barrier on metal surfaces, preventing rust and corrosion. Whilst this product is double to cost of Tetroseal, it does have more anti-rust protection properties. Lanogaurd has a semi-translucent finish, and dries to a texture similar to that of candle wax. The semi-translucent finish means you can still see the rust, but this does allow you to monitor it’s protection, as opposed to hide it, like the tetroseal does. That being said, aesthetically, it’s not as pleasing as tetroseal, so it all boils down to what you’d prefer.

Dinitrol – https://www.dinitroldirect.com/

DINITROL High Performance Wax is a beige transparent, low viscous wax for application and corrosion preventative coating on vehicles such as trucks and buses but also for other objects where corrosion is a problem. The product is water repellent and high penetrating. This product is loved in the 4×4 community. It isn’t cheap, but the protection it offers is fantastic.

Why is it important to get protected?

Salt used on roads during winter can significantly accelerate rust on a car, primarily damaging the undercarriage and other exposed metal parts by attracting moisture and causing corrosion, which can lead to structural weaknesses and decreased vehicle lifespan if not properly maintained; this is because salt acts as a corrosive agent, eating away at the metal when combined with water.

Key points about salt’s impact on cars:

Rust formation:
The primary concern is the rapid development of rust on the car’s undercarriage, wheel wells, suspension components, and exhaust system due to salt’s corrosive nature.
Paint damage:
Salt can also damage paintwork, especially if there are existing scratches or imperfections, allowing moisture to seep in and initiate rusting.
Reduced lifespan:
Frequent exposure to road salt can significantly shorten a car’s lifespan by hastening the deterioration of metal components.
How to mitigate salt damage:
Regular car washes: Frequent washing of the undercarriage is crucial to remove salt buildup.
Waxing: Applying a good quality car wax can provide a protective barrier against salt.
Undercoating: Consider applying an undercoating spray to protect the underside of the car.
Wheel well liners: Installing plastic wheel well liners can help shield exposed metal areas., DE
